The seminar was held on 12 July 2011 at the AUA and hosted heads of Armenian Specially Protected Areas, representatives of the National Ministry of Nature Protection, Armenian Ecotourism Association, WWF-Armenia and the leading tour operators of Armenia offering ecotours.
There were discussed topics such as principles of sustainable ecotourism, opportunities of its realization in protected areas, organizational and services issues, problem of local guides, and many more. Particular attention was paid to issues of potential benefits from the ecotourism development to local communities.
A special part of the seminar was devoted to concrete discussions of opportunities for birdwatching, butterfly-watching and botanical tours to each of the Armenian protected areas. The seminar offered a unique chance and brought together the main stakeholders of the process - tour operators and heads of protected areas. Both of the parties have truly appreciated the chance.
